Typical approximate annual running costs include mooring £850 full year at Buzet sur Baise, (or £425 if wintering only), £300 Groves fully comp insurance £300 VNF Freedom Vignette, plus fuel and periodic maintenance. Our second home in France typically costs less than £2000 per annum, about the price of a week’s hire locally.
Cycling the towpath and surrounds is a particular joy. We travel with 2 Brompton folding bikes, Olivia and Esme. They are not included in the sale may be available by seperate negotiation. They are easily stowable. We also have two full size electric bikes which may be preferred as an option, but these do not fold and are carried on the stern deck or in the wheelhouse. We have covered 3000km on these over 2 seasons without any trouble, including trips Bordeaux to Moissac, into the foothills of the Pyrenees and locally the Valley of the Lot river and north into Cahors.

Nous avons pique-niqué au bord de l’eau a Vianne!
Just 2 hours from Buzet along the Petit Baise, a beautiful Bastide village dating back 700 years, with free moorings, picnic tables, water and electric at no charge. Two excellent small local restaurants in the square. A favourite haunt.

Be careful of fast moving traffic on the tow path and maintain a supply of carrots if you decided as in this case, to embark on the Pilgrimmage to Compostella in Spain. This incredible route traverses from Conques in the east via the nearby port of Moissac, 70k away along the towpath, and westward through the Pyrenees to the Atlantic in northern Spain.
